Alice Mary Smith

Alice Mary Smith is significant as being the first British woman to have composed and performed a symphony although she lived a generation before the composition of serious large scale works by women composers becoming accepted by women .*

I got some cds from the local library yesterday and one of them is a recording feauturing symphonys by Alice Mary Smith

The one pictured above . I am wholly unfamiliar with her work and was intrigued enough to borrow it . It features clarinet and I really like clarinet so I thought I would give it a listen .

*this is from the liner notes of the above pictured and aforementioned cd .
